Solana Beach Restorative Dentistry

At Dentist Solana Beach, we provide the latest advances in restorative dental techniques. Restorative dentistry includes dentures, extractions, root canals, crowns, implants, bridges and fillings. Many of Dr. Sidhu’s patients combine a number of dentistry procedures to achieve optimum oral health and smile design. For example, a patient may choose to eliminate the “gummy” appearance of his or her smile with gum recontouring, and then enhance the results with a teeth whitening session or veneers.

A bridge is a restorative option when you are missing one or several teeth. A bridge is anchored by teeth on both sides of the missing teeth to restore both function and esthetics and prevent shifting of teeth. Call or make an appointment with Dr. Jessy Sidhu to learn more about bridges.

A dental crown, also referred to as a “cap”, may be the restorative choice for teeth that may have had large fillings that have failed, teeth that have been fractured, and teeth that have been root canaled. Crowns can be made with life-like porcelain materials, a combination of porcelain and metal, or sometimes of gold. Dentures are made when all of your teeth are missing. There is an adjustment period, but in time you will be able to speak and eat normally. Dentures may be made to have a more natural feel and become more stable by using dental implants. Implants can stabilize dentures that have become loose due to the progressive loss of bone and prevent further bone loss. Good oral hygiene should always be practiced since the loss of a single tooth can have major impact upon your oral health and appearance. Although we will use every measure to prevent tooth loss, sometimes there are still necessary occasions when a tooth may need to be extracted. For example, a tooth may need to be extracted if the following occurs:

  • Severe decay
  • Advanced periodontal disease
  • Infection or abscess
  • Orthodontic correction
  • Malpositioned teeth
  • Fractured teeth or roots
  • Impacted teeth

When a tooth develops a cavity or decay, a filling can help restore the tooth back to its normal function and shape. If you have a tooth that requires a filling, we will first remove the decay, clean the affected area, and then restore the tooth with a tooth-colored filling material. A filling also helps prevent further decay by closing off any cracks or spaces in which bacteria can enter.

A dental implant may be an ideal tooth restoration when missing one or more teeth. A dental implant is a titanium root form that is surgically placed into the jaw. Once the implant is in place and bone surrounding the implant has had time to heal, a replacement tooth or bridge is attached to the implant(s). Implants may be a more favorable approach than a bridge since they do not depend on neighboring teeth for support. Dr Jessy Sidhu specializes in surgical placement, restoration, and care for dental implants.

Root Canals

A root canal is performed to remove diseased and infected tissue within a tooth. The process leaves the inside of the root disinfected so that we may fill and seal to prevent further infection. A tooth that has been root canaled may sometimes need a crown to prevent fracture of the compromised tooth structure after therapy. Properly treated teeth with root canal treatment by Dr. Jessy Sidhu can help restore health and proper function of the tooth.

Custom designed night guards are made of a durable hard plastic and molded to fit the shape of your teeth. They are crafted to give you an ideal bite and relax jaw muscles. Nightguards are recommended for patients to treat TMJ disorders and for those who clench or grind their teeth at night as a way to protect the teeth, bite, and temporomandibular joint. Athletic guards are made of soft plastic and are recommended to protect the jaw and teeth during physical activity and sports such as boxing, football, basketball, or other activities where your mouth and teeth are susceptible to injury. In addition, these guards protect the soft tissues of your tongue, lips and cheek lining. Give Dr. Jessy Sidhu a call for a proper nightguard or athletic mouthguard fitting.
